David Swofford loves being a part of a positive first impression for many people who come to JAMHI for behavioral health services. Connecting with people comes naturally to David who has been a pastor for 34 years and continues to work in prison ministry.
Though he and his family have been in Juneau for 21 years he’s spent time in Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma before landing here.It was in Missouri that David worked at a mental health clinic that served four counties working with at-risk children and teens. In his seven years at JAMHI, David has earned his Chemical Dependency Counselor I certification and is working towards the CDC II certification to grow his skills in substance use treatment and counseling.
David loves his grandchildren, traveling, music; and combining all three. He notes three things that he uses to help clients reach their goals:
- Believing that we all have value.
- Believing that we all need someone to help us along the way.
- Believing that we all have purpose. It might take some time to figure it out, but it’s not how we start but how we finish.
